I Like Pois by SANDRO TOMASSINI

Through the panel I Like Pois, Sandro Tomassini expresses his great passion for kinetic art and polka dot patterns. In 1976, at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, he presented, along with striped and checkered furniture, the famous "settimino a pois," a vertical seven-drawer piece of furniture lacquered in glossy black with drawer fronts silk-screened with white polka dots. In December of the same year, it was reviewed in Casa Vogue as a particularly interesting novelty and was described as "optical art."

In 2015, this work was created using a round white wooden panel with a diameter of 140 cm, featuring 57 colored polka dots. Although it seems to evoke famous works by Damien Hirst and Jerry Zeniuk, it actually stands out for its interactivity. I Like Pois begins as a series of white semicircles on a white background, which then open up via invisible hinges, transforming into polka dots of various colors. Those who own the piece find it pleasantly instinctive to touch and modify it every time they pass by, perhaps creating simple figures that come to mind.
