OTI 5 - Laces & Straps, a kinetic artwork completed by Sandro Tomassini in 2015, emerges from the ongoing exploration of new abstractions in both forms and materials. Starting with a white-painted panel measuring 86x102 cm, adorned with white metal half-moons, the artist uses various types and colors of shoelaces. By tying and untying them, an infinite range of compositions is created.

The work begins as an all-white piece, which then incorporates shades of gray, followed by black, and gradually other colors are added one by one. To facilitate this process, a small structure containing the various types of laces is provided on the side of the artwork.

In 2022, with small modifications to enhance accessibility, the work became part of the Giostra dell’Arte.

The artwork was created in 2015 using mixed media techniques, including painted wood with acrylic colors, metal hardware, and shoelaces.
